Flow Lines

Flow lines present as irregular shallow round or angular grooves that appear on the surface of the casting. This defect indicates that the ceramic shell was built around a defective wax pattern.

The causes of this defect are evident in the wax portion of the process. To cure these causes, R&R recommends taking the following actions.

Wax

  1. Flow lines appear in the wax pattern due to excessive die lubricant, low injection pressure, cold wax, cold die, or poor flow rate.
  1. Adjust the wax parameters to eliminate flow lines, temperature, pressure and flow rate.
